Walking among the trees

Hello everyone, I am not an expert in wilderness survival techniques but an enthusiast. I love the wild and its nuances in every season and I find that Bushcraft is the true way to live it fully. I have learned and am learning skills through study and experimentation with techniques of wild life, experimental archeology, reenactment. I would like to share these experiences, improve my skills and give my contribute.

  1. Hi Wild Tuscany,
I assume your name is in reference to the region of Italy. My grandfather was from Italy, up North in Spilinbergo. What kind of a bushcraft community is there in Italy?

    Thanks
    Andy

    • Ciao!! Yes I live in Prato, a city near Florence! Have you ever visited your grandfather’s land? Here in Italy … I’ve found on the web lots of communities with a paramilitary survival view. I therefore have a rather different idea of wilderness, similar to Ray Mears or Kochansky, so I decided to follow bushcraftuk forum
However I can suggest italian useful links:
      this forum http://www.avventurosamente.it/xf/home/ -on the great outdoor;
this blog http://adoricchi.blogspot.it/ – bushcraft and knives, he has designed the Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife (one of my knives 😀 ).
Our conversation gave me an idea..I’ll write an article on these web resources!! Ciao Mattia

  2. Belated hello from Türkiye… just wanted to say “thank you”, I appreciate your recent ‘follow’, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there. It’s been a while I know, but a storm knocked out our village internet and phone, hence the delay!

Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.

You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process.

Hope you have a great day…

      • Haha, no problem. That’s a good point, maybe adding my email address could get the messages treated as spam – thanks for that 🙂

Anyway, welcome to the mad world of blogging.I love it. I spend many hours on my own, working the farm/garden, plus my wife works away every week, so this has opened up a whole new world for me too – surprisingly too!

If you need any help, or have any questions about blogging, or using WordPress, just mail me. We are a community after all, and many people have helped me over the past 21 months 🙂

        All the best, Spike

      • Thank you very much! So.. I’ve a question about the world of wordpress.. Is there a way to connect a wordpress.com blog with blogger? I’ve found that is possible to customize with programming but not for a simple blog.. Are there other ways? Thanks!!!

      • Never used Blogger myself. How do you want to ‘connect’ to Blogger? There are many things you can do with Wordpres.org (the pay version), but .com is a lot simpler and has much fewer customisable features – but it’s free.

      • Yes i know this.. I’ve used wordpress.org (it’s open source) but require hosting etc… Yesterday i commented a post on Blogger using my WordPress account, but the reverse operation I know that is not possible..is it not?

  3. Hey Mattia,

I like how you have only excerpts/snippets of each post, with a “continue reading…” link at the end. How do you do that? I swear I’ve clicked everywhere in my admin panel, but I can’t figure it out! Many thanks, brother!

    • Hi Brother!!!
      The fastes way is this:

      • Go in POST
      • Select ADD NEW, MODIFY
      • In the main toolbar you’ll find normal writing tools, but there is also this icon      select this

      Ok?
Now.. I have a question for you! When do you to introduce your sons in the world bushcraft? I too am a Dad, I’ve a little daughter… in june two years old… and I’ve a baby backpack carrier… 😀 .

      • Thanks, man!
I take both kids with me on all of my day trips. 2 yrs old is a perfect age to get them started. A carrier is a great idea, because my kids don’t like when the underbrush touches their legs. It can be challenging to keep their interest, so make sure you incorporate things they like. My kids love to snack and drink hot cocoa, so I always have plenty. I recently came across a magazine article that had a lot of ideas. You can read it online, but they ask for your email to send you their newsletter (which you can cancel): http://www.rapidmedia.com/cr/canoerootsmag_spring15/
        Cheers!

  4. your enthusiasm just bubbles away here and its quite nice to have connected with you as I have a BIG passion for camping, hiking and respecting the wilderness myself. I am curious, though, as to how you discovered and liked my blog. I thank you very much 🙂

      • I’ve boiled, roasted, and eaten chestnuts raw, but I’ve never heard of putting them in a cake. I bet that is fantastic! Come autumn, I may be hitting you up for a recipe!

      • I promise to share the recipe used here! But the chestnut flour , centuries ago, was used in my area also to make ‘Polenta’ (like cornmeal mush)! In the past during a famine the people ate this chestnut polenta with herring, nowadays there is a festival where eat this!

  5. What a cool blog. I’m going to dig in and learn from you. I agree, bring up your daughter doing what you love. It will bring you closer through life and be a common bond that extends to the next generation.
